About KVK

Indian council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in collaborations with earstwhile University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore , Started Krishi Vigyan Kendra in 1976. It was the first KVK in Karnataka and Second in South India. Since 1986 it comes under the Jurisdiction of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad and involved in the transfer of agricultural technologies to the farming community.

Mandates

 Conducting on-farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
  Organizing frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of various crops and enterprises on the farmers’ fields.
 Organizing need based training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies related to technology assessment, refinement
     and demonstration, and training of extension   personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development.
  Creating awareness about improved technologies to larger masses through appropriate extension programmes.
  Production and supply of good quality seeds and planting materials, livestock, poultry and fisheries breeds and products and various bio-products to the farming
      community.
  Work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural
      economy of the district.

Objectives of KVK

  To demonstrate the latest technologies in agriculture & allied subjects with a view to reduce time lag between technology generation and adoption.
   To test & verify the technology in socio-economic conditions of the farmers with a view to study production constraints and to modify the technologies to make
       them appropriate.
   To impart training to the practicing farmers and rural youth by the methods of Teaching by Doing and Learning by Doing.
   To provide training & communication support to the district level development agencies like agriculture, horticulture,  animal husbandry, fisheries and NGOs in their
       extension programmes.
